FEMORAL NERVE PALSY
CAUSES:
  • PSOAS ABCESS
  • PELVIC NEOPLASM
  • FRACTURE OF THE PELVIS OR FEMURE
  • HIP DISLOCATION
  • INGUINAL HERNIA
  • COMPLICATION OF SPINAL ANESTHESIA
  • PROLAPSE INTERVERTEBRAL DISC
  • LUMBAR SPONDYLOSIS OR STENOSIS
  • NEUROPATHY SECONDARY TO DIABETES MELLITUS KNOWN AS  DIABETIC AMYOTROPHY
  • NEURAPRAXIA AFTER HYSTERECTOMY
  • PENETRATING WOUNDS OF LOWER ABDOMEN
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:
LOSS OF SENSATION
QUADRICEPS JERK IS LOST
GENU RECURVATUM IS SEEN BECAUSE QUADRICEPS IS PARALYSED
TREATMENT:
  • UNDERLYING CAUSE MUST BE DEALT WITH
  • IG STIMULATION TO THE PARALYSED MUSCLES
  • PASSIVE MOVEMENTS
  • ORTHOSIS TO CORRECT GENU RECURVATUM.
