SPINAL ARACHNOIDITIS
ITS AN NON SPECIFIC INFLAMMATORY DISEASE OF THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE WHICH IS CHARACTERISED PATHOLOGICALY BY THICKENING PF THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE.
CAUSES:
- SURGICAL PROCEDURE LIKE LEMINECTOMY,DISCECTOMY,SPINAL INFUSION,RHIZOTOMY
- INJECTED AGENTS LIKE SPINAL ANESTHESIA
- SPACE OCCUPYING LESION
- INFECTIONS LIKE TUBERCULOSIS AND SYPHILIS
- INTRATHECAL HEMORRHAGE
INFLAMMATORY CHANGES IN THE ARACHNOID MEMBRANE CAUSES HYPERAMIA.
CLINICAL FEATURES:
SIGNS:
- TENDERNESS
- PARASPINAL MUSCLE SPASM
- SCOLIOSIS
- AREFLEXIA
- SPHINCTER DISTURBANCES
- MOIST HEAT MAINLY FOR REDUCING MUSCLE SPASM
- IN CASE OF RADIATING PAIN PATIENTS MAY BE TREATED WITH TENS.
- LASER MAY BE USED TO REDUCED INFLAMMATION
